Build Your Base Athletes Find Success at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Pierre, South Dakota – The South Dakota Beef industry Council (SDBIC) and Sanford Health are enthusiastic about the success from the five Build Your Base athletes who participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics July 28th – August 8th in Tokyo, Japan. These athletes included US Pole Vaulter Chris Nilsen, US Hammer Thrower Deanna Price, US Hammer Thrower Rudy Winkler, US Pole Vaulter Katie Nageotte and US Heptathlete Erica Bougard.

The Build Your Base program is a comprehensive sports nutrition program that utilizes beef as its premier protein. It strives to prepare young athletes and their families for a successful sports season from high school athletes, all the way to professional athletes. The Build Your Base program is focused around a whole plate experience giving athletes a well-rounded nutritious meal. These Build Your Base athletes that competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics have been utilizing the Build Your Base ready-to-use nutritional and educational materials to help them incorporates beef as their premier protein to perform at their highest potential.

The Build Your Base athletes did an exceptional job at this year’s 2020 Tokyo Olympics. US Pole Vaulter Chris Nilsen brought home the silver medal, US Pole Vaulter Katie Nageotte brought home the gold medal, US Hammer Thrower Deanna Price placed 8th, US Hammer Thrower Rudy Winkler placed 7th and US Heptathlete Erica Bougard placing 9th.

The SDBIC and Sanford Health are tremendously proud of these athletes who have endorsed the Build Your Base with Beef program and have competed in the 2020 Tokyo Games and look forward to watching their successes in the coming years, as they are powered by our favorite protein. These athletes continue to drive the demand of beef not only here in the United States but around the world.
